Trek’s draft

Pack 1 pick 1:

My Pick:

  • I added Titania to the cube after Commander 2014 came out, and I’ve been anxiously awaiting getting to use her.  This was the first time, I had the opportunity, so I took it.    From a power level, Cathar’s Crusade or Bribery were the right choice.   For keeping open, Solemn was the right choice.

Pack 1 pick 2:

My Pick:

  • So, assuming that I’m keeping with Titania, Sun Titan was the choice here.   I started thinking ramp.  Sun Titan would have let me recur the fetches so I could keep making elementals.

Pack 1 pick 3:

My Pick:

  • Eternal Witness or Gilded Lotus.  I had possibly the best possible deck for Vinecrasher, and he was still usually a 2/2 or 3/3 at best.   Not worth it.  He’s getting cut.

Pack 1 pick 4:

My Pick:

  • Archangel has the raw power, Pridemage the utility.   I stand by my pick here however, as Titania needs fetch lands.

Pack 1 pick 7:

My Pick:

  • Maybe an argument for seismic assault.  Maybe.

Pack 1 pick 8:

My Pick:

  • So, if you’re going land heavy, that means ramp.  And ramp means big guys, right?   He always did good work, but noting earth shattering.  I should probably have used the caryatid to make sure I had a solid base instead.

Pack 1 pick 9:

My Pick:

  • This one was a windmill slam and don’t look back.

Pack 1 pick 10:

My Pick:

  • Even a budget fetch still makes land-babies.

Pack 1 summary:

  1. Titania, Protector of Argoth
  2. Llanowar Elves
  3. Centaur Vinecrasher
  4. Misty Rainforest
  5. noble hierarch
  6. Avacyn’s Pilgrim
  7. Avenger of Zendikar
  8. Garruk, Apex Predator
  9. Crucible of Worlds
  10. Terramorphic Expanse
  11. Capsize
  12. Sunken Hollow
  13. Master Biomancer
  14. Sage of Fables
  15. Dragonskull Summit

So, several cards I’m very excited about (Titania, Crucible) 2 fetch lands.  I think I’ve got a decent base.

Pack 2 pick 1:

My Pick:

  • I honestly don’t really remember why I was looking at this card.  It’s great, it’s solid. I guess it’s a mix of being a great draw spell and the pack being a little light for me.

Pack 2 pick 2:

My Pick:

  • And bazinga.  Who works well with Titania?  She works well.   So, GW.  Question is commit to the W or splash.

Pack 2 pick 3:

My Pick:

  • Eh.  If I had to do over again, I think it’s be the Vinelasher.  He didn’t make main deck, and really, doesn’t fit the theme that well.

Pack 2 pick 4:

My Pick:

  • There are some cards that will never again be printed as-is in Magic.  Sylvan Library is one of them.  Even if you never use the life to draw part, the combination of looking three cards deep and then shuffling away the two cards you don’t want with use of fetch lands is very strong.

Pack 2 pick 5:

My Pick:

  • I love Oath decks in Vintage.  I love watching vintage Oath decks go off.   It’s a strong card that should fit well in cube, right?   Well… I almost decks myself on the turns I didn’t hit a mana elf.  Thank God for Sylvan library as it let me not deck myself.   Not saying the card’s getting cut from the cube, but it’s one that needs more care about including in your deck.

Pack 2 pick 6:

My Pick:

  • I didn’t have high hopes for this card, but thought it might be worth including with all the +1 counters.  It wasn’t.  I should have done the fetch or the Beast Within.

Pack 2 pick 7:

My Pick:

  • Maybe I should have taken doubling season, to get twice the elementals, but no.

Pack 2 pick 8:

My Pick:

  • Spider-fog, on the other hand, out performed my expectations.   It was awesome.  10/10, would cube with again.

My Pick:

  • Yay, Vinelasher wheeled.  It was also good.  It was a 6/6 at least twice.

Pack 3 pick 1:

My Pick:

  • I don’t think this needs much discussion.

Pack 3 pick 2:

My Pick:

  • Colorless big dude – possibly helping me ramp.  Easy pick.

Pack 3 pick 3:

My Pick:

  • Meh at best.  Given my deck so far the Evolving Wilds or Marsh Flats would have been better.

Pack 3 pick 4:

My Pick:

  • I thought hard about Planar Outburst. It was probably the right choice.

Pack 3 pick 5:

My Pick:

  • No regrets here.  Bane can be back breaking if he hits early.  Sun petal grove would be nice, but it’ll probably wheel.

Pack 3 pick 6:

My Pick:

  • Rare modal card where both modes are possible bombs.

Pack 3 pick 7:

My Pick:

  • He’s better in a deck that focuses on +1 counters, but I still got use out of him digging for cards. Polluted Delta would have been ok, but I stick with this pick.

Pack 3 pick 8:

My Pick:

  • I sadly only drew him once, and it wasn’t the right time.  He’s strong.  Maybe I should have taken the elf.

Pack 3 pick 9:

My Pick:

  • Meh.

Pack 3 pick 10:

My Pick:

  • So first, let me say that this is a bad card.  A baaaaddd card.   A bad card I included specifically for Titania. And I ended up with it.  It worked hilariously in one game when my board turned into lots of threats.   Still a bad card, a narrow card that only works with one deck and a card I should cut.   (But it was fun…)
